Moodle in the real world
  Nov 3rd, 05:11 UTC

Moodle is a free, open source course management system, based on sound educational principles. Many institutions across the world (around 6500 in 128 countries, as registered on the Moodle site) are taking advantage of the low cost, scalability, and extensive feature set of Moodle to deliver their e-learning.

While Moodle can be used to create a single online course, it can also scale to provide virtual learning environments for massive institutions. It also has many potential uses outside of the education sector, such as provision of e-learning materials for corporate training. In this workshop run by OpenAdvantage, you have a chance to hear from expert practitioners who are using Moodle in a variety of such environments:

  • Peter Kilcoyne (JISC Regional Support Centre West Midlands) will provide a general overview of Moodle, and show how it is being used in the education sector.
  • Sean Keogh (Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, and first UK Moodle Partner via his business, pteppic.net): Sean will talk about his experiences of implementing Moodle in a commercial setting, and how Moodle meets the demands of his commercial customers.
  • Alan Staley (University of Central England) will describe how to maximise Moodle's potential by exploiting its rich tool set. He will also talk about pedagogic aspects of using Moodle.

If you are planning a virtual learning environment implementation, or have an existing system which is not meeting your needs, attend this free workshop to find out more about this open source alternative.
