  Nov 30th, 00:37 UTC

Puget Sound Technology is teaching a hands-on class covering the fundamentals of FreeBSD system administration, February 3-6, in Seattle, Washington.

Puget Sound Technology is teaching hands-on system administration training focusing on FreeBSD, February 3 - 6, 2004, in Seattle, Washington, USA. This class covers standard open source skills such as mail server management (using Postfix), DNS with BIND, Apache Web Server Administration, as well as FreeBSD admin fundamentals.

FreeBSD is known as a reliable, secure, and high performance Unix operating system. According to a recent Netcraft study, FreeBSD powers nearly 2 million active websites; and popular hosting providers, such as Yahoo, NTT/Verio, Infospace, Pair.com, and others take advantage of FreeBSD.

Puget Sound Technology's FreeBSD course includes instruction in system startup configurations, user and group administration, "hardening" techniques for advanced security, custom kernels, packet filtering and Network Address Translation, and more.

"Students will setup their own authoritative DNS servers and secondary DNS servers for the other classmates," said Jeremy C. Reed of Puget Sound Technology. "And they will configure the Apache HTTPD webserver for virtual web hosting."
