Oct 27th, 14:33 UTC
The Beta release of BitDefender for Samba is out. This anti-virus product is designed to protect Samba servers running under Linux from viruses and other malware. The BitDefender development team is proud to invite Linux admins to test our newest product.
Join our thousands-strong beta testing posse in the hunt for the last few bugs. The contest may sound unfair, but then, there weren't many to begin with... We've come a long way in developing this, our latest and best brainchild. Let's walk the last miles together.
BitDefender for Samba Linux File Servers integrates the latest version of the BitDefender Antivirus Engine, which was certified by the most prestigious testing labs (ICSA in February 2003, Virus Bulletin 100% in June 2003 and CheckMark in August 2003) and is configured for "On-Access" scanning of the files that are copied to or are accessed from the Samba file server. The multi-platform virus detection technology incorporated into the BitDefender Engine offers real-time protection against more than 90,000 Windows, DOS, Linux, Unix, macro viruses, and Trojans. This feature particularly useful if the Linux file server is configured with Samba shared partitions that are used by network clients running other OSs (e.g. Windows). Additionally, an extremely efficient internal cache technology is employed to help increase on-access scanning speed.
BitDefender for Samba works with Samba version 2.2.x or 3.0 and is available for RedHat, SuSE, Debian, Mandrake, Slackware and other Linux distributions (based on kernel 2.4.x, glibc 2.2.3+, gcc 2.9x or gcc 3.x, in rpm, deb and tar packages).
Key Features:
- Improved On-Access antivirus scanning
- Real-time protection for Samba shared partitions
- Automatic and incremental Internet update
- High performance recursive scanning of archives (.zip, .rar, gz, .tar, etc.)
- Command-line scanner
- Heuristic detection of new viruses
- Internal cache technology to speed-up scanning
