TWiki, a Flexible and Powerful Web-Based Collaboration Platform - New Version
  Feb 6th, 17:32 UTC

Major corporations like Inktomi, Motorola, SAP, Sun Microsystems and Tripwire use TWiki to run dynamic knowledge management and intranet sites. TWiki enhances collaboration and manages content using only a standard web browser.

San Jose, Wednesday, 05-Feb-2003: TWiki.org announces a new version of its popular collaboration platform. TWiki looks and feels like a normal intranet or web site. In addition, an Edit link on every page allows users to freely create and change content. TWiki is installed on a web server and can be operated from any web browser, without requiring special browser Plugins.

TWiki extends the free-form and creative world of Wiki systems where content can be shared as easily as e-mail; it adds structure to content, which can be browsed, searched, grouped, categorized, filtered and access restricted.

Features include automatic link generation, full text search, authorization based on groups, web form handling, reporting, e-mail change notification, file attachments to web pages, revision control of pages and attachments, a modular templating system with skins, and more.

The new TWiki version 01-Feb-2003 includes, among other new features, an enhanced Plugin API, internationalization support, enhanced search, and improved web-based administration.

TWiki with its server-side Plugins API is a platform where developers can build groupware applications in an efficient way. More then 60 Plugins and add-ons are currently available for download at the TWiki.org web site, including an Action Tracker Plugin, Calendar Plugin, Chart Plugin, Database Plugin, Headlines Plugin to display RSS news feeds, LDAP Plugin, Poll Plugin, Slideshow Plugin for web-based presentations, Spreadsheet Plugin, XML XSL Plugin, XP Tracker Plugin, Mail to TWiki Add-On, Publish Add-On to generate static HTML pages, Web Services Add-On, and more.

Major companies use TWiki to increase the productivity of their teams.

"TWiki makes it easy for us to collaborate without having to wonder who has the latest version of a document or go through cumbersome version control procedures," said Gene Kim, chief technology officer at Tripwire, Inc. the world leader in integrity assurance solutions. "Its hyperlinking capability allows us to easily edit documents, or expand upon one another's ideas. We use TWiki for brainstorming, meeting notes, work logs, internal documentation, project planning and tracking. TWiki is an essential tool for getting work done -- not having it would be like not having email or Google."

"TWiki is designed to eliminate the 'one webmaster syndrome' where Intranet content is outdated and insufficient" said Peter Thoeny, the author of TWiki. "Empowering employees to make changes to the Intranet, combined with a peer review of content makes sure that content is up to date and accurate."

TWiki is available for download from the TWiki.org website.
