Puerto Rico's First Linux Installfest
Aug 8th, 23:22 UTC
The Linux Community in Puerto Rico will have a first-time opportunity to get Linux installed for Free and see what resources are availible to them, locally.
Get Linux installed for Free at the Linux Installfest on Sunday, September 17th 2000. This event is hosted by Linux-PR and the "La Asociación de Estudiantes de Ciencia de Cómputos (AECC)" at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras, and is open to the entire community.
Linux installation is sometimes challenging, because it requires that the individual be fairly technical. The volunteers at Linux-PR and AECC, will assist in the installation process and help the new users configure Linux "to their liking." Their system will be configured with a basic installation, including XWindows.
The Installfest promises to have activities for all levels of Linux users: new, experienced or just curious. Hector Ramos, founder of Linux-PR says, "There will be presentations and forums on topics such as networking, programming, administration, security, multimedia and getting started. Business partners, such as Oracle, will demonstrate their Linux products and services to the community. Consultations will be available by Linux "Gurus," regarding the operating system and it's features."
Linux-PR is the first site in Puerto Rico dedicated to the Linux operating system. The website is support and education for all Linux enthusiasts. It's also, a place where local users can unite and exchange ideas with users all over the world. The University of Puerto Rico has been using Linux for many years and welcomed an opportunity for their students to get "hands-on" experience in the installation process. The UPI is recognized for their outstanding Computer Science and Telecommunications program and looks forward to "showing off" their new Natural Science building.
For more information about the event and pre-requisites for installation visit the site for Linux-PR at www.linux-pr.com. If you are interest in participating in the event or becoming a business partner, please contact Hector Ramos at hramos@linux-pr.com.
