AMIRIX Launches ELSA Program for Embedded Linux
  May 19th, 13:24 UTC

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, May 18, 2000 - AMIRIX Systems Inc. recently launched its Embedded Linux Strategic Alliance (ELSA) program geared towards bringing the benefits of Linux to the embedded systems market. As an international technology leader in embedded systems solutions, AMIRIX will leverage proven technology with its strength in both hardware and software design to develop, validate, document and support Linux offerings.

"The ELSA program not only provides a low cost entry vehicle into Linux-based embedded systems market," says Vice President, Andrew Reid, "it provides the support of an experienced professional technical team, expert in diagnosing and debugging complex integrated hardware and software issues. ELSA frees up clients to focus on design, manufacture, sales and distribution of complete hardware solutions for the embedded systems market, while we deal with the rapidly evolving Linux operating system."

AMIRIX also offers device drivers and turnkey Linux technology solutions, for specialized or custom boards and processors, to systems integrators and developers who wish to use Linux as their embedded operating system. AMIRIX also offers a full range of custom hardware and software solutions to meet clients' specific requirements. AMIRIX designs to a "solution space" and produces optimized partitioning of hardware and software architectures.

AMIRIX's recent Linux activities
At the recent Linux World Expo in Montreal, AMIRIX launched a promotional campaign entitled "LINUX ON BOARD". This trademarked tagline illustrates and emphasizes that the operating system is totally integrated with the vendor's board as opposed to "shrink wrapped" generic software where the end user is left with the difficult task of integrating the operating system with the hardware. Participating ELSA program clients have the advantage of offering their end users a complete working computing platform "right out of the box". For end customers this means a lower cost, easier-to-use product.

AMIRIX staff have been instrumental in establishing the Embedded Debian Project, an independent, non-commercial project focused on driving Debian GNU/Linux deeper into the embedded space. Debian's open development process, reputation for reliability and security, powerful package manager, and wide and growing range of supported architectures provide a solid foundation for the realization of this goal.

AMIRIX believes that using Debian as the focal point for concentrating the efforts of the embedded Linux community will advance the state of the art faster and more effectively than today's fragmented efforts. AMIRIX will be a strong supporter of the Embedded Debian Project and invites the participation of organizations and individuals with similar goals.

AMIRIX will exhibit at the Embedded Linux World Expo in San Jose, CA, June 22nd and Toronto, ON, November 16th.
