Canux 2.0 - Premiere Canadian Linux E-Retailer Gets Major Overhaul
  Mar 21st, 17:12 UTC

Renfrew, Ontario - March 21, 2000 - Lazarus Engineering Corporation today announced that one of Canada's first Linux-only on-line shopping destinations has re-opened it's doors with an entirely new web site.

Canux has been serving the commercial linux community on-line since May 1999 with products and services specifically tailored to Canadian consumers. Today they have re-opened their doors with a new look and some new Linux technology behind the site.

"Canux needed a flexible architecture and Apache JServ was the key." said Lazarus Engineering Corp.'s founder and CEO Steve Cockwell. "You can't do E-Commerce right in Canada with solutions that were built for the U.S. market. We needed three different taxation methods, postal code shipping tables, prices in Canadian dollars, and product weights in Kilograms."

Canux is built upon Linux and Open Source foundations. Web pages dynamically generated by a shopping cart servlet are handled through Apache JServ with a MySQL backend database system. OpenSSL provides connection security. This architecture gives Canux extensibility - allowing new features to be added to the site in hours rather than weeks.

In an effort to bolster Open Source E-Commerce development in Canada Canux has announced that they will be setting up a forum for Linux professionals interested in working in this area. "Canux is 90% Open Source right now - I expect it to be 100% within six months." said Steve Cockwell. "The Canadian market - particularly small to medium- sized business - are crying out for a solution like this one. We're going to do our best to ensure the needs of this market are met."

Canux re-launches with specials on the brand new Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 and Loki's newest title Heavy Gear II.
