Hussey-Mayfield Public Library in Zionsville, Indiana has gone live with Evergreen, the consortial-quality open-source library automation software. This is the first step in a process that will see seventeen Indiana public libraries migrate to Evergreen by the end of 2008 as part of Indiana Evergreen, a shared-catalog project administered by the Indiana State Library. Equinox Software, Inc., the support and development company for Evergreen, provided bumper-to-bumper support during the Hussey-Mayfield migration.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Norcross, GA - August 27, 2008 Hussey-Mayfield Public Library in Zionsville, Indiana has gone live with Evergreen, the consortial-quality open-source library automation software. The entire migration--from initial data mapping to going live--took less than a month. New, "first-for-Evergreen" features appearing in this installation include account notifications ("pre-overdue notices") and a simplified Web-based self-check. (Evergreen has supported SIP2 self-check since its first release.) "Hussey-Mayfield Public Library is working our way toward a full open source library in all aspects, and this is one more step on that direction," said Rick Deuschle, Associate Director of Information Technology and Facilities. "Evergreen is built with the right tools, has strong scalability, and can be used in consortial settings. It's software created by libraries, for libraries." Brad LaJeunesse, President of Equinox Software, commented, "Evergreen proves its mettle in these multi-site settings. Everyone at Hussey-Mayfield has been great to work with. Open source software is obviously a viable solution, and as more libraries come on board and share their local knowledge, Evergreen becomes more powerful and adds even better features." About Hussey-Mayfield Public Library Hussey-Mayfield Public Library--a heavily-used library, with nearly 25 circulations per capita--is in Zionsville, Indiana, just northwest of Indianapolis. The library serves over 12,000 patrons and has over 130,000 holdings. All local library events such as summer reading clubs and library programs are paid for by the Hussey-Mayfield Foundation. The library's website is at http://www.zionsville.lib.in.us/ and their new online catalog can be viewed at http://evergreen.lib.in.us About Evergreen Evergreen is consortial-quality, open-source library system software. Evergreen was initially developed to support PINES, a resource-sharing consortium with over 270 public libraries. While Evergreen was designed from the ground up to meet the needs of very large, high-transaction, multi-site consortia, its robust, fault-tolerant architecture elegantly scales down to the smallest sites. Evergreen is also adaptive software that due to its service-oriented, standards-compliant design can nimbly evolve to meet changing library needs and user expectations. From its debut in September 2006, Evergreen has consistently outperformed expectations and resulted in acclaim and praise from users worldwide. Evergreen has received significant attention, including a Technology Collaboration Award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Additional Evergreen implementations include the SITKA consortium in British Columbia, Canada, sites that are going live this fall in the Michigan Library Consortium, and several smaller implementations, such as Kent County Public Library in Maryland and Marshall Public Library in Missouri. Founded by the original Evergreen designers and developers, Equinox Software is a growing team of skilled developers and other professionals who provide comprehensive support for Evergreen, the consortial-quality, open source Integrated Library System (ILS). Equinox develops, supports, trains, migrates, integrates, and consults on Evergreen, and engages with the rapidly expanding Evergreen community. Instead of one-size-fits-all support, Equinox works closely with libraries to ensure Evergreen is implemented in the manner that best fits their individual needs. In addition to support, custom development and integration services, Equinox offers complete Evergreen hosting packages for libraries wishing to outsource their ILS infrastructure. Equinox also provides consulting services for libraries seeking more insight into the value proposition of open source software.
