LPI hosts panel at Intel Developer Forum (San Francisco, August 18, 2008)
  Aug 8th, 17:36 UTC

(San Francisco, USA: August 6, 2008) The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), (http://www.lpi.org), the world's premier Linux certification organization announced a special presentation and discussion "Linux Certification and Developers - Industry Feedback Special Session" at 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on August 18, 2008 at the Marriott Hotel in San Francisco as part of a "co-location" event LPI is hosting during the Intel Developer Forum (August 19 - 21, 2008). LPI will also offer discounted exam sessions for their popular Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) during the co-location event.

"We welcome this opportunity to speak with those in Intel's developer community who would be interested in how a Linux certification program might serve as an effective human resource tool in promoting the in-demand skills of professional IT developers. This is an ideal community with which to begin these kinds of exploratory discussions and represents our well-established practice of industry consultation around our certification program," said Jim Lacey, President and CEO of the Linux Professional Institute. Mr. Lacey added that this is the fourth time LPI has participated in the IDF program--twice before at the IDF event in China and last year in San Francisco.

The panel discussion will include Jim Lacey, G.Matthew Rice (Director of Product Development for LPI), Dr. Kevin P. Dankwardt of K Computing and other representatives from the Intel developer community. The morning sessions at 8:30 a.m. will focus on LPI's exam development process while the afternoon session at 3:00 p.m. will explore through discussion and panel presentations what are the necessary components of a Linux certification program that would serve the interests of the developer community.

LPI will also offer their popular LPIC certification exams at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on August 18, 2008 at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel (located across the street from the Moscone West Convention Center). Attendees of the Intel Developer Forum and others may take any of the LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 exams or the LPI-302 exam at $75 each (regularly priced at $155 each) or $100 for the LPIC-3 exam (regular price is $200). Interested participants should pre-register with LPI at events_at_lpi.org and indicate which exams they are taking and at which time. All exam candidates must obtain an LPI ID and are asked to bring valid photo identification and their LPI-ID number to the exam labs. Payment for exams can be made by cash, cheque or credit card.

During the Intel Developer Forum, LPI will host an information booth: #435 (directly across from the "Embedded Zone").
