Linux Professional Institute Announces New Affiliate in Italy
  Apr 29th, 13:39 UTC

(Sacramento, USA: April 28, 2008) The Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's premier Linux certification organization (http://www.lpi.org), announced a new affiliate for Italy: LPI-Italia (http://www.lpi-italia.org). LPI-Italia will be hosting its first exam lab at the upcoming Open Mind Free Software Meeting in Naples, Italy (http://www.openmind05.it) on May 10, 2008.

"LPI welcomes LPI-Italia into our network of global affiliates. We made significant progress in the last year in growing our partnerships throughout the world--particularly within Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)," said Jim Lacey, President and CEO of the Linux Professional Institute. Mr. Lacey credited John Meaney, Area Operations Manager for the growing network of affiliates in EMEA. "LPI's focus on recruiting strong regional partners who share our vision of promoting Linux and Open Source Software through the adoption of professional IT standards and workforce development has proven to be a winning formula," said Mr. Lacey.

Daniele Cirio, Manager for LPI-Italia, reiterated this need for professional standards within Italy: "One of the main challenges for supporters of Open Source technology in Italy is to move from promotional efforts around software choice to programs that enable concrete and effective fulfillment. This is particularly true within the public sector and small/medium sized enterprises where benchmark certifications that demonstrate proficiency and professional standards are especially valued." Mr. Cirio added that LPI-Italia would be promoting LPI programs in Italy through national events, a toll-free telephone information line, and information on education and training on their website (http://www.lpi-italia.org).

LPI-Italia will be hosting its first exam lab in Italy at the upcoming Open Mind Conference at San Giorgio a Cremano, Naples, Italy on May 10, 2008. Exam labs will be throughout the day at 10:30, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00. All LPI certification exams will be available at discounted prices as follows: LPI 101,102, 201, 202 and 302: 90 euros; LPI-301 (LPIC-3 Certification exam) at 115 euros; and the Ubuntu Certified Professional exam at 95 euros.

Candidates wishing to participate in these exam labs are invited to obtain an LPI ID at: https://www1.lpi.org/it/register.html and pre-register for the event at: http://www.openmind05.it/index.php?module=FormExpress&func=display_form&form_id=3

The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is globally supported by the IT industry, enterprise and professionals and within government and the educational community. LPI's certification program is delivered worldwide in multiple languages at over 7,000 testing locations and is supported by an affiliate network spanning five continents.
